This is the portable edition of Rainmeter – a comprehensive desktop customization utility that supports multiple skins and gadgets. Among other features, it shows users resource usage details. Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can save the program files to any location on the hard disk and click the executable to run. It is also possible to move Portable Rainmeter to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any computer with minimum effort. What's more, the Windows registry section does not get new entries, while a standard file deletion is enough to remove the utility. At initialization, Portable Rainmeter creates an icon in the system tray area, that you can double-click to set up configuration parameters. The tool includes six built-in gadgets: clock, disk meter (measuring one or two disks), Google search engine, network traffic (upload and download speed, IP address), recycle bin, resources usage (CPU, RAM, Swap), along with an additional “Welcome” gadget showing Rainmeter documentation. In general, gadgets built for this platform come with multiple variants, but the default Illustro pack offers just one version for each item (aside from the disk meter). You can place any of these gadgets on the desktop by double-clicking the corresponding INI file in the “Active Skins” menu. The utility lets you configure settings regarding frame position, coordinates, load order, transparency level, and action on mouse hover (e.g. hide, fade in), among others. Furthermore, it is possible to save and restore Rainmeter's current layout, while excluding skin folders and files, and including the current wallpaper. As far as general settings are concerned, the application offers multilingual support and automatically checks for updates. You can disable dragging, enable D2D rendering, reset statistics, and log all activity to file. These options may be also edited in the INI file. Advanced users are given the opportunity to share skins they have created with other users, via the Rainmeter Skin Packager (.rmskin package). Aside from editing the name, author and version, you can add skins (from the Skins folder or custom), layouts and plugins (32-bit or 64-bit DLLs). The program has a good response time and doesn't decrease system performance, using low CPU and memory. We have not experienced any difficulties throughout our evaluation, since Rainmeter did not hang or crash. Although its configuration panel is not particularly intuitive, users shouldn't take a lot of time to learn how to manage most parameters. For enhanced functionality, you can team up the application with third-party plugins, such as IkonkoRainmeter or Integrator Theme for Rainmeter. Note that some external components require the installer version of Rainmeter (such as Vista Rainbar).

Flexible yet simple to use, Rainmeter is a free, open-source solution for customizing Windows desktop computers. It can be used as standalone desktop customization software or as a plugin in the great GTK/Windows Theme Configuration Tool (GTK-WC-Tool). Rainmeter includes some professional tips for setting up a desktop layout. Want to know how much RAM is being used by the CPU? How is your swap partition performing? Which USB Flash Drive is using the most storage space? Who is the IP address of your favorite torrent tracker? Rainmeter consists of two basic parts: the skin(s) that „paint“ your desktop and gadgets that collect data from your hardware/applications. Rainmeter is a true platform – it works with skins for Windows 7, 8, 10, Linux and even Mac OS X. There are dozens of customization options and you can select the combo of gadgets you want. Also, Rainmeter is a multi-language application – it supports skins in the following languages: English, Czech, German, French, Dutch, Polish, Slovak, Spanish, Italian, Hungarian, Russian, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. The words „famine“ and „homeless“ keep cropping up when farmers and other rural people talk about the tragic consequences of Victoria’s drought. „We have lost 40 per cent of our livestock,“ said Brian Wilde, a farmer from Horsham in the north of the state. „We’ve had to put our dogs, all our livestock, into feedlots for safety and that costs us $800 a day. It is the biggest heartbreak.“ Hoarding wild crops is becoming a new survival strategy for farmers in Victoria. The wool industry is booming, with 40 million kilograms of wool expected to be shipped from Victoria for the 2013/14 season. This influx of wool exports has meant a
Windows® 8, 8.1, or 10 users can now enjoy Windows Media Center (WMC) on their tablet and PC – thanks to new universal playback support for various media types. Microsoft also provides a number of new features for WMC on Windows® 8 that will let you make the most of your media. MediaCenter is a free personal media navigation and streaming PC software that was released in 2004. It was renamed to Windows® Media Center when the user interface was redesigned in 2007. The application allows users to record, play, edit, and view photos, music, and video. This software uses a remote server to share media between computers, streaming video and other media from the server to the computers. With a remote server, users can access their music, photos, video, and other media stored on a networked computer, wireless router, or NAS (Network Attached Storage) device. This software allows media to be set up to be shared. This can be done by adding the remote computer’s IP address to the list of computers from which the WMC Player can stream media, and selecting which media types will be streamed from that computer. All media that has been set to be shared can be controlled by other computers on the network, or with the media server itself. WMC Server is a Windows Media Foundation component that provides streaming media and content protection services to the Microsoft Windows Media Center. It provides server and client component services to allow streaming video and audio content to be accessed on multiple devices simultaneously. Movies and video files are stored on media servers and can be viewed on any Media Player connected to the network.
